Promoting Academic Freedom: FreeAc Summer School in Poznań
From June 24–28, 2025, the FreeAc Summer School took place at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, bringing together over 40 academic staff and students from Ukraine, Poland, Austria, Greece, and Italy. The programme focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of academic freedom and exploring concrete strategies to protect and promote it in times of crisis and transformation.
Organised as part of the Erasmus+ project FreeAc – Promoting Academic Freedom in Ukraine, the Summer School featured expert-led workshops, keynote lectures, and hands-on training sessions aimed at empowering higher education institutions to respond to threats to academic freedom in times of war.
WUS Austria participated as a member of the project consortium and contributed to the programme by presenting findings from research conducted within the scope of the project.
The FreeAc project is implemented by a consortium of universities and civil society organisations from Austria, Ukraine, Poland, Italy and Greece. It is co-funded by the European Union under Erasmus+.
