ORIENT transnational project meeting in Palermo, Italy

Palermo. Ten professionals from Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece and Italy met in Palermo/Italy from May 9-10, 2022 to exchange on the progress in the implementation of the joint Erasmus+ Project - ORIENT - Young explorers re-discover local communities through orienteering. The meeting gathered representatives from the project Consortium and was hosted by CESIE (Centro Studi e Iniziative Europeo). In the upcoming project period, partners in five countries will implement trainings for sport trainers and CSO workers for promoting social inclusion through orienteering. The training will be based on a curriculum developed within the project.

The ORIENT project is coordinated by CESIE and aims at promoting social inclusion and participation of vulnerable young people and other local community members by using orienteering as a multi-goal activity; enhancing sport trainers’, and Civil Society Organisations’ workers abilities to foster social inclusion at local level by using orienteering as a grassroot sport able to encourage participation and ownership of shared values; and raising awareness among local communities, stakeholders and policy-makers of the value of sport as a tool for inclusion in order to foster solidarity and participation as well as cohesion and inclusion policies.
