Second Children’s University in BiH organized at the University of Mostar

Ninety boys and girls accompanied by 18 teachers participated in the Second Children's University in BiH 2013 under the slogan “Education is for everyone!”. This time round, the Children’s University was held at the University of Mostar. Children from nine primary schools in Banja Luka, Sarajevo, Doboj, Krupa na Vrbasu and Mostar had the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a student. Through short lessons and workshops they were – with games and lots of fun -  introduced to the world of research, education opportunities, and also acquired information about the variety of potential professions.

"Children's University in Bosnia and Herzegovina" is coordinated and organized for the second time in BiH by WUS Austria, anticipating to strengthen the role of civil society, human rights and democratic principles through participation of all groups of society in higher education. The project brings together children from across the country, who are important multipliers in the present and the future, in order to promote higher education cooperation between the primary schools and universities, and to build a common future through lecturing on various topics that are fully adapted to children aged 10-12 years.

Within the program which lasted from September 23-26, 2013, the children participated in workshops and listened to lectures held by faculties from the Faculty of Health Studies, Academy of Fine Arts, Faculty of Science and Education, and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Mostar. As a guest lecturer from Sarajevo professor Arma-Tanovic Brankovic from the Academy of Performing Arts organized an interesting drama session for her young participants which they tremendously enjoyed!

Children’s University aims to increase children's interest in science, research and technology through exciting, interactive experiences from an early age. In this fashion children develop professional talent and creativity in their personalities and deepen their curiosity and critical thinking.

Apart from lectures at the faculties, the children also participated in “extra – curricular” activities, such as a visit to the Old bridge in Mostar, Eco village in Blagaj, interactive workshop by Sparkasse Bank, and a visit to CineStar Mostar to see an animated 3D film.

After a four-day dynamic and enlightening program the Second Children’s University was officially ended by awarding of diplomas to all participating children who left Mostar  richer in experience and knowledge.
