Kick-off Meeting for the Project: “PhD at University of Prishtina”

Prishtina. WUS Austria in cooperation with the University of Prishtina, at the premises of the Faculty of Law (Human Right Centre), organized the Kick-off Meeting for the TEMPUS Project: “PhD in Food Science and Food Technology and Creating Capacities for reforming PhD studies at University of Prishtina” (PhD@UP).

Present at the meeting were: Rector of the University of Prishtina, Prof. Dr. Mujё Rugova; Vice-Rector for Teaching and Scientific Research of the UP, Prof. Dr. Bajram Berisha; Director of the Higher Education Department from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Kosovo, Prof. Dr. Avdulla Alija; Coordinator of Kosovo TEMPUS Office, Ms. Kimete Canaj, President of the Board of the Kosovo Accreditation Agency, Prof. Dr. Ferdije Zhushi; Director of the Kosovo Accreditation Agency, Mr. Basri Muja, as well as representatives from the EU partner universities: Technical University of Munich (Germany), University of Graz, University of Granada (Spain),  University Vaasa (Finland), Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary, other representatives partners from Kosovar: Independent Students Union and Student List “Reforma”.

The aim of project “PhD@UP” is to support curricular reform and capacity building at UP, with active involvement of Ministry of Education, State Accreditation Agency of Kosovo and Student Unions. It focuses on reforming PhD curricula in accordance with the Bologna process and up to date European standards, thus supporting the integration of Kosovo into the European Higher Education area.

During his speech, Rector of the UP, Prof. Dr. Mujë Rugova emphasized the importance of the project in preparation of the new experts in the field of food technology: “The aim of this programme is to create a practical model at the University of Prishtina that offeres PhD programmes besed on European Standards, contemporary curricula in line with the recent trends in Science, Research, Students mobility, Intenationalization and Quality Assurance”, said Rector Rugova. On the other hand, Director of Higher Education Department Prof. Dr. Avdulla Alija mentioned the role of the Ministry of Education has in contributing to the consolidation of different mechanism and process to provide quality in Higher Education, comparable and competitive in the European Higher Education Area. In addition to this, Mr. Sc. But Dedaj, Regional Manager of WUS Austria, Prishtina Office, stated that “The importance of this project, with the main beneficiary University of Prishtina, will contribute only in reforming the curricula of UP and  creating capacities, but will also support the internationalization of the University of Prishtina”.

The project: “PhD in Food Science and Food Technology and Creating Capacities for reforming PhD studies at University of Prishtina” (PhD@UP) is financed by European Commission through TEMPUS program.
