Meeting of Higher Education Cooperation Board at ACCESS Center in Sarajevo

Sarajevo. The meeting of the Higher Education Cooperation Board was held at the ACCESS Center on Friday, December 19th, 2008. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Dino Mujkić (WUS Austria Regional Manager) and Mr. Haris Muhić (SUS BiH Director).

The Board was established in 1996 in order to create a communication platform for NGOs and other organizations working in the field of Higher Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its members, apart from NGOs, are also institutions from the governmental sector, ministries, embassies and international organizations. The Board officially changed its name from NGO Committee into Higher Education Cooperation Board (HECB) in 2007.

The main objective of the Board is to exchange information and to coordinate joint activities. Furthermore, it is an opportunity to receive information on activities that are currently implemented or planned.

This year, the meeting gathered representatives of 11 institutions/organizations.

This year the meeting gathered representatives of 11 institutions/organizations. The following representatives held a short presentation covering the main topics of their work and the latest news from their organizations:

The representatives discussed the main topics and problems in higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, among which were: Bologna Process implementation, University harmonization and implementation of the Framework Law on Higher Education and quality assurance. One of the central topics was problems young people face when it comes to verifying degrees earned at schools and universities abroad. Also it was emphasized that, in the future, more efforts should be put in securing the participation of a larger number of ministry representatives from all levels.
