Project: Skopje University Business Start-Up Centre: Through Networking to Successful Companies - Phase I: Establishment of the Centre (Project nr: OZA 7945-01/2005)

In the framework of the project “Skopje University Business Start-Up Centre: Through Networking to Successful Companies - Phase I: Establishment of the Centre” founded by the Austrian Development Agency, a study visit to Austria for the members of the Business Start-Up office from Skopje, Macedonia was organized. The guests from Macedonia came to Styria from September 18th to 22nd and visited the Styrian start-up and technology centres, the Styrian Development Agency as well as the University of Leoben and its Academic Start-Up Centre. Apart from the members of the BSC office, Prof. Gjorjgi Martinovski, rector of the University of Skopje, as well as Prof. Milan Kjosevski, dean of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty at the University in Skopje, visited the above mentioned institutions. The rector and the dean had a meeting with the rector of the University of Leoben, where they talked about future initiatives and cooperation possibilities. Both rectors gave their full support to the project implementing team consisting of the partners from Macedonia and Austria.

The Macedonian partners were informed about the situation at the business start-up and technology centres in Austria. They had the opportunity to visit different types of Austrian business start-ups. Moreover, they were made familiar with supporting possibilities for the young entrepreneurs (by the Styrian government). A “best practice” presentation from the Styrian region was also given: companies such as VTU Engineering, M&R Automation, Neuro Genetic Solution GmbH and CNSystems (The brain and heart company) presented their successful stories.

The Macedonian delegation got a clear overview of how institutions such as Austrian university start-up centres and/or technology centres work. They went home with a lot of impressions and ideas which they are going to implement during the establishment of their own business start-up centre at the University of Skopje.
