Graz feiert 25 Jahre Menschenrechtsstadt – Menschenrechtsbericht 2025 online
Am 8. Februar 2001 verabschiedete der Grazer Gemeinderat einstimmig die Menschenrechtserklärung der Stadt Graz – ein Meilenstein in der Stadtgeschichte, der Graz zur ersten Menschenrechtsstadt Europas machte und seither das lokale Handeln an universellen Menschenrechtsstandards ausrichtet.
In diesem Jahr blickt Graz nun auf 25 Jahre Menschenrechtsarbeit zurück. Passend zum Jubiläum wurde der Menschenrechtsbericht 2025 fertiggestellt, der aktuelle Lage, Herausforderungen und Handlungsempfehlungen zur Situation der Menschenrechte in der Stadt dokumentiert. Der Bericht wird im kommenden Gemeinderat präsentiert und steht bereits online zur Einsicht bereit.
Überblick: Menschenrechtsbericht 2025
Der neue Menschenrechtsbericht richtet den Blick auf zentrale Themen, die für die Stadtgesellschaft von hoher Relevanz sind. Zu den Schwerpunkten und Herausforderungen des Jahres 2025 zählen unter anderem:
- Kinderbetreuungsangebote – ausreichende und inklusive Strukturen als Grundlage für Chancengleichheit.
- Diversitätsmanagement in städtischen Institutionen und Prozessen.
- Politische, kulturelle und soziale Teilhabe, um allen Menschen Teilhabechancen zu sichern.
- Hygiene und sanitäre Infrastruktur im öffentlichen Raum – menschenwürdiger Zugang zu sauberer und sicherer Sanitärversorgung.
- Diskriminierungsschutz – Verbesserung des Schutzes vor Benachteiligung und Ausgrenzung.
- Klimaanpassung – menschenrechtliche Perspektiven angesichts ökologischer Herausforderungen.
Der Bericht betont, dass Menschenrechte in einer Zeit zunehmender gesellschaftlicher Spaltungen und globaler Krisen nicht nur relevant bleiben, sondern als Orientierungshilfe für solidarisches Zusammenleben dienen. Menschenrechte sollen weiterhin aktiv gelebt, verteidigt und kontinuierlich weiterentwickelt werden – im Sinne einer offenen, gerechten und inklusiven Stadtgesellschaft für alle.

Graz celebrates 25 years as a Human Rights City – Human Rights Report 2025 online
On 8 February 2001, the Graz City Council unanimously adopted the Human Rights Declaration of the City of Graz – a milestone in the city’s history that made Graz the first Human Rights City in Europe and has since aligned local action with universal human rights standards.
This year, Graz looks back on 25 years of human rights work. To mark the anniversary, the Human Rights Report 2025 has been completed, documenting the current situation, challenges, and recommendations for action regarding the state of human rights in the city. The report will be presented at the upcoming City Council meeting and is already available online for consultation.

The new Human Rights Report focuses on key topics that are highly relevant to the urban community. Among the priorities and challenges for 2025 are:

The report emphasizes that in a time of increasing social divisions and global crises, human rights not only remain relevant but also serve as guidance for solidarity in living together. Human rights should continue to be actively practiced, defended, and continuously developed – in the spirit of an open, just, and inclusive urban society for all.
